Quantitative Literature Review: Minority attitudes towards the police and public perceptions Introduction-Background-Problem Individuals who seem to be more unhappy with police are African Americans. But there is little to no factors that truly engage citizens view of the police Brown and Benedict (2002). The specific parts on attitudes are reliable, but the literature seems to lead to mixed signals based on other variables Weitzer and Tuch (2002). Perceptions of the police includes factors like personal experience, vicarious experience and mass media. For example, public’s experiences with the police, what individuals learn from friends and/or acquaintances, and whats learned from the media Gallagher et al. (2001). Weitzer/Tuch(1) The purpose of the study was to identify views of citizens on the police. These views included; police misconduct, perceptions of police racial bias, and evaluations of and support for policing reforms Brown, Ben, and William Benedict (2002). Data was recovered from a national survey of the United States conducted by authors between the months of October through December of 2002 (Whites, African Americans, and Hispanic adult residents of metropolitan areas). The sample data is similar of individuals residing in telephone households in urban and suburban areas with a minimum of 100,000 individuals. The researchers performed race comparisons-within the survey-in which Blacks and Hispanics were significantly to a lesser extent of education and lower incomes; younger; live in cities rather than suburbs; live in neighborhoods with more serious crime; feel less safe in their neighborhoods; report greater exposure to media coverage of police misconduct; and have more frequent experiences w ith, and greater perceptions of, both police racial bias and police misconduct. Not only did the American public hope to be able to rely on and trust their federal government, but they also desired strong management of foreign affairs. During the Presidency of Jimmy Carter, America faced many blunders overseas. One particular high-profile issue was the Iranian Hostage Crisis where, â€Å"Iranian students stormed the U.S embassy in Tehran and took 53 Americans hostage,† and the attempted rescue of said hostages which resulted in a collision between two helicopters and eight dead marines (Davidson, et al 937). The Carter Administration’s handle on foreign affairs proved to be disastrous. He pushed through Congress countless pieces of legislation, more than the New Deal, designed to create equality in America including the Medicare and Medicaid Acts, the Elementary and Secondary School Act, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Davidson, et al 873). The American public seemed to accept Johnson’s programs as a drastic yet positive step for the nation. However, as time passed, many middle class Americans began to view Johnson’s steps as relaxed liberal policies that allowed lawbreakers and members of the lower class to live off of their hard work. The feeling that they were being taken advantage of led many Americans to question the effectiveness and legitimacy of Johnson’s â€Å"great society†. One of these middle class Americans wrote a letter to Nelson Rockefeller, the Republican governor of New York, stating that she was â€Å"discriminated against in favor of dope addicts and welfare cheats† (Document 3). The feelings in her lette r exemplify the anger of the middle class when dealing with Johnson’s â€Å"great society† and more broadly, the failure of the liberal state to bring about real change or equality. Online Shopping Vs. Shopping Essay Shopping has always been one of my favorite hobbies. The hardest part is choosing which is better at that moment, online shopping or in-store shopping. I personally love to do both, especially when there are sales, because sometimes online may have a better sale than in store and vice versa. In the real world real shoppers will know that Online and in-store shopping differentiates in various ways. However, depending on the situation they both are sometimes convenient ways to shop. Recently, in-store shopping has been more convenient for me because sometimes I just want or need something right away, but in reality I enjoy both ways of shopping. I believe that shopping preferences change depending on a person’s situation. I noticed that many people are starting to prefer online shopping more than in-store shopping. Although, online shopping is more convenient for individuals that don’t have time to go to the store. If you’re busy with work or school then online shopping can sometimes be more convenient. It’s also convenient since you don’t have to drive, catch the bus, wait in a long line, or deal with not being able to find an item. All you have to do is type in the item you’re looking for and it’s there. Once you find the item, you can order it at any time because online stores never close. Lately, I’ve been having a lot online shopping experiences because they have been having really great deals and sometimes extra 20% off purchase. Also since a lot of stores have started online shopping with pick up in the store, a lot of people have been enjoying that as well because you can order items and pay for them online. You receive a confirmation code and a time that your items will be ready and a. . t have to trust the size and measurements and most online stores clothes are not true to their sizes. At times, I received items with completely different measurements than they described. In conclusion when I decide to make online purchases, it’s usually because of the price and free shipping. I’m really into both online and in-store shopping because they’re both convenient at times. I just love to shop so I’m where ever the sales are at. I really like that I can shop worldwide with online shopping so many different stores and more options of items online. Although, I’ve had my share of negative experiences, I won’t let that stop me from making further online purchases. Online shopping and in-store shopping are both great ways to shop. I love shopping and I am always willing to explore various shopping options.
